Call for Speakers

We would like to invite speakers for WordCamp Mumbai 2017.

Deadline for Entries is Tue, 28-Feb-2017 Fri, 10-March-2017 @ 16:30 hrs.

As WordCamp is a conference about WordPress, talks need to be about WordPress or related to WordPress in someway, but some generic content which would interest a WordPress User is also considered.

WordCamps are volunteer driven events and speaking is also consider a way of volunteering at the event, hence it isn’t a paid gig or linked with sponsorship in anyway. In fact, speakers are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation.

If you have read so far, you may be considering applying to speak here are some tips:

  • Your command over the subject matter is more important than your ability to present or your experience speaking at events.
  • Single speaker sessions aren’t the only thing we are looking for, so feel free to be creative and apply with even your ideas for group discussions, QnAs, Demos, Workshops and anything that you could manage in an Auditorium like the one we have.
  • Speaker sessions need not be in English alone; we would love to host sessions in Hindi and Marathi as well.
  • Adding your story to your talk rather than just giving out instructions will make your session more interesting and even more likely to be picked if others apply for the same topic. For e.g. instead of applying with a topic like “Developing a WordPress Plugin” you could do “Developing my first WordPress Plugin” or “What I learnt while publishing over 25 plugins on WordPress.org”

Some Rules:

  • Ideally we’d like sessions to be not more than 20 mins with an additional 10mins of QnA.
  • If you have multiple session suggestion, please apply multiple times (Don’t be Spammy though)
  • Speakers are vetted by volunteers, they may not be able to reply to everyone or accommodate everyone, so be thoughtful and nice 🙂
  • No one is a celebrity at WordCamp Mumbai. Speakers when they apply should co-operate with the speaker review team to work on the content of their topics. Just like you, they too have full time jobs and careers and are volunteering their time to WordCamp Mumbai.
  • You need to submit your session presentation in Advance, if your are not using one, at least an outline or points you will be covering needs to submitted to your Point of Contact.
  • If you are distributing any WordPress derivatives which include WordPress Plugins and Themes, they need to be 100% GPL like the core WordPress Software.
  • As mentioned above These are not paid gigs. Speakers are not paid to speak at WordCamps or paid by Organisers to travel. They have to either fund themselves or ask their company to do so. Think of speaking at a WordCamp as part of volunteering.

Call for Speaker is Closed Now. See you at WordCamp Mumbai
